About Schilthuis Construction Inc.
The name “Schilthuis” in the construction industry of Ontario started in 1952 only days after Harm and his family arrived from Holland. Harm ran Harm Schilthuis and Sons Ltd. until 1988 at which time his son Henk became President. Henk, who started working with the company in the 1950’s earned his carpenter’s papers in 1960 and ran the company until 2003 when Henry Schilthuis, Harm’s nephew, stepped into the President’s role. Henry worked for the company as a labourer until becoming a carpenter in 1978. Each generation has started with entry level positions and worked their way up through the many jobs including carpenter, estimator, superintendent, project manager, vice president and president. The company is totally family run, giving it a personal touch that some large companies are lacking. In 2009, with additional family members Aaron, Phil and Tim Schilthuis coming into the business, Schilthuis Construction was born. Following in the footsteps of Harm Schilthuis and Sons Ltd., Schilthuis Construction has taken flight and is continuing the success of the late Harm.
